Phrase Repair

When one phrase comes out wrong.

Tap the wrong words. Pick a fix, or say just that phrase again.

Problem

On a phone, fixing one wrong word means selecting, retyping or switching keyboards. It eats the time dictation saved.

The phone comparison waits for a device check

  1. Dictate “Send the proposal to Risha.” into Messages with the Flow keyboard, on iPhone and on Android.
  2. Change “Risha” to “Rishav” the fastest way each app allows. Note taps, keyboard switches and seconds.
  3. Check whether either keyboard offers alternatives, a voice edit or Polish on a one-word selection.
  4. Record app versions, OS versions and date. Then add the comparison.
FeasibilityCan a keyboard replace one span in another app?

In a real keyboard, the repair panel has to find the latest dictated span in another app's text field and replace exactly that range, even after the cursor moves. Whether iOS and Android keyboard APIs allow that reliably is untested. It's the first thing to settle before building.

What this prototype doesn't showLimits
  • It doesn't work in other apps, recognize speech or detect uncertain words. Marks, alternatives and repeats are prepared.
  • One repair at a time, one level of undo. Not yet tested with users.
