Journal Mode

When the words are the point.

Capture your thoughts in your own words. Clean them up when you're ready.

Problem

When you journal by voice, you may want your own words kept. There's no “keep it raw, just this once” switch.

Hypothesis In my test Flow mostly kept my voice. This is about choice, not a fix.

Solution

Turn on Journal Mode, speak, keep your words. Polish later if you want.

Proposed shortcut Press fn three times quickly to turn Journal Mode on or off.

Metrics

People come back to it, and nothing changes behind their back

Trade-offs

What I gave up, on purpose

One recording, not a setting

Overa journal setting that stays on

Costturn it on each time

Keep both versions

Overreplacing the capture with the polish

Costone more choice after each entry

Button first, shortcut second

Overrelying on triple-press fn

Costslower to start; the shortcut clashes with hands-free

Why this, and what my test showedA preference hypothesis
Preference hypothesis

When people journal or think aloud, some would rather keep the way they said it: the hedges, the restarts, the word they'd never write. Then decide later whether to tidy it.

My testNot yet verified

In my journal comparison, the output largely kept my tone and the story's details. So this isn't a claim that Flow strips personality. Evidence record R2

Capture rulesWhat Journal Mode keeps

Keep what makes it yours. Add only punctuation and paragraph breaks. A word that couldn't be made out stays marked instead of guessed.

The shortcut conflictTriple-press fn already means something in Flow
    Wispr docs

So a triple-press of fn would start hands-free, then cancel it. The Journal Mode button is the dependable path; a dedicated binding may fit better. Source: Use Flow hands-free

A web page can't reliably read the physical fn key, so use the on-screen key.

      What this prototype doesn't showLimits
      • It doesn't record or recognize speech. The entry is prepared text, two lines quoted from my own journal comparison.
      • The Polished version is written by hand. A real Polish would come from Flow's Transforms.
      • Mobile activation isn't designed yet; the phone preview shows the same flow with the button. Not yet tested with users.
